SWITCHUP

A stylized 3D visualization framed like a cinematic game character selection screen, where one hard shutter transition flips social status into narrative shock.

The Concept

“Switch Up” is a stylized 3D visualization that mimics a “wanna-be” video game character selection screen, presented in a cinematic narrative style. The concept utilizes a dynamic transition mechanic - a simulated security rolling door to shift the viewer from one social archetype to another.

The underlying theme explores a fictional game roster where every playable character is derived from a distinct social or life class, creating a diverse, yet fragmented, society. This particular sequence illustrates the drastic shift between the life of a high-flying conglomerate and that of a hunted criminal, summarizing the duality of the game's world.

03 / Visual Description

The Visual

The visual sequence begins on a darkened select screen, where a high-class character, sporting white hair, expensive sunglasses, and an all-black luxury outfit, walks confidently toward the screen. Standing against a shadowy silhouette of a Tesla Cybertruck, his presence is defined by material success and sleek design.

An active User Interface (UI) floats to the right, showing an archetypal grid with only two characters unlocked: the high-class figure and a second, distressed figure below him. The remaining slots are conspicuously marked with padlock icons, representing locked social classes like a “DJ Artist” and “Head of Sect.”

This scene then cuts. Utilizing a textured, amber-colored rolling security shutter as a hard wipe transition, the screen “closes” and immediately “switches up” to reveal the second unlocked character. In stark contrast, this figure is seen in a frantic moment of arrest. Trapped under the harsh spotlight of a police cruiser and the dark silhouette of evergreen trees, he is being handled by a police officer while wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and glasses.

The visual tells a clear story of a failed escape attempt, concluding the “wanna-be” selection sequence with a narrative shock.

Artist's Intent

04 / Artist's Intent

The Intent

My intention with “Switch Up” is to satirize the polished perfection often presented in modern media and gaming. I wanted to use the familiar structure of a game's UI - the unlocked slots versus the locked potential - to comment on socioeconomic division.

By creating a roster that includes extreme contrasts - from the untouchable conglomerate to the freshly arrested convict - I am presenting a world where every “character” is defined not by magical abilities, but by their social standing. The rolling door transition is a literal interpretation of “switching roles” or “switching up” one's life, forcing the viewer to confront the narrative weight of a single choice.

This work demonstrates my ability to blend environment design, character storytelling, and UI/UX visualization into a singular, high-concept portfolio piece.
